Get Motorcycle Frame Repair & Fabrication in Maryland
Baltimore | Dundalk | Silver Spring | Glen Burnie
The frame is an essential, but often overlooked part of a motorcycle or ATV. After all, bike without a frame is just a pile of parts leaking fluid on the floor of your workshop.
Understanding basic motorcycle frame repair and design will go a long way toward helping you become a competent motorcycle mechanic.
We developed the Motorcycle & Power Equipment Technology program to give students skills they will need to find steady, profitable work doing repairs on motorcycles, ATV’s, small engines and outdoor power equipment.
Students in Baltimore and surrounding towns like Columbia, Woodlawn, Catonsville, and Essex are in a good position to take advantage of this great program and launch their new career.
Welding a Motorcycle Frame
A cracked or bent frame on a motorcycle or ATV is a big problem. The bike may still run, but is likely unsafe to ride or even turn on. Making sure your welding and cutting skills are solid is the first step in learning to repair a motorcycle frame. The welding course for students in the motorcycle program covers:
- Welding safety
- Oxy fuel cutting
- Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW)
- Tools for cleaning welds
- Set up of arc welding equipment
All skills are extensively practiced in the lab so students will become familiar and comfortable with standard equipment and techniques.
Motorcycle Frame Design & Suspension
This program will give you a good grounding in motorcycle frame design. Different types of bikes use different materials and configurations to achieve different results. Understanding this will give you insight into motorcycles and ATV’s even with only a casual glance.
Since the suspension system is integral with the frame, and the design of one will affect the design of the other, students will be taught about suspension systems and configurations. A lot of very sophisticated engineering goes into making the motorcycle or ATV frame and suspension work together and increase performance.
Students will be able to:
- Identify different types of frames
- Identify and repair suspension components
- Understand motor mounts and mounting
- See where different components attach to the frame and interact with each other
